Why No Fans?
Because Fans are not the best solution
Every laptop already has a built in fan. Fans are great cooling solutions for Desktop computers but
not the best for Laptops as Fans tie you back to the desk, in addition to other problems problems:
- Fans need power, a fan-based cooler that needs to be plugged in to the wall socket all the time, restricts mobility as
you have to be plugged in all the time.
- Fans can also be powered by USB, but this drains Laptop Battery life, again defeating object of mobility,
that is why many Laptop guides recommend that that you unplug USB devices to extend battery life.
- Any USB device running of a laptop makes the laptop produce more heat to start with.
- Fans can get noisy, especially if a little dust gets inside, more and more people use their Laptops for work and
entertainment like watching online TV, Social Networking or watching DVDs, when a buzzing fan gets annoying.
- Fans are better suited for desk only cooling as they only work if
the air vents of the fan based laptop cooler are themselves not blocked by soft surfaces like your lap, rug, bed, grass etc.,
this is not practical for around the house or lap use as you need a solid surface like a desk

The whole point of Laptop computing is to work and play anywhere you want.
Nowadays, most laptops come with longer battery life and wifi, more and more
households have wireless broadband with their cable or telephone company giving away free Wireless Routers when you
sign up for broadband.
You can use as many fans as you like, but if using your laptop around the house means that the air
intake of a fan based cooler is blocked, it will not work.
This is like swimming against the evolution of mobile computing, away from Desktops
to Laptops, as it ties you back to the desk because of power needs, battery life or ventilation.
