How to Record an MP3 online
- First of all, download a fantastic free software called Audacity,
Its open source software for recording and editing sounds in Linux, Mac OS X, and other operating systems.
-
Then Download the correct LAME MP3 Encoder
for your OS, and install it, make a note of the location of the installation, you will need this if you intend
to export to MP3 file format.
- Install Audacity and configure it to set your sound input to "stereo mix" as shown below.
-
Find some video or podcast, online that is copyright free and press play, the example shown below is from a royalty free
video podcast on youtube.
-
Do a sound test, press the record button and watch for the red sound input bar and the grey area
around the sound channel, this amount of blue/grey is about right, but you might need to adjust the sound
input if its too low or high as shown below.
- If your sound input is too loud, the dark blue will fill up the grey channel, you need to adjust it by dragging the
input volume slider toward the - sign.
-
If your sound input is too low, there will be hardly any blue in the grey channel, you need to adjust it by dragging the slider towards the + sign.
- Once you get the input sound volume right, wait for the whole video or podcast to load,
press play first and then press record on audacity.
- Press stop when you finish and export to MP3, on first use, audacity may ask where your LAME DLL is installed, point them to your installed location.

Now you have an MP3 that you can burn to CD to play in your car or drag and drop to your MP3 player/phone to listen to, on the go. Home
