What's the most eco friendly background?
That depends on what whether you have a CRT monitor or and LCD monitor or laptop screen which is the same as an LCD monitor.
Studies show that CRT monitors use least energy when set to black desktop color, and the most when set to completely white
backgrounds. LCD Monitors are less sensitive to color, some studies show that white uses 6% less energy whilst other show that

Eco screen settings
- Do not use animated screen savers and cursors
- De-clutter your desktop
- Use power management software or your OS display settings, set it to turn off your display after 1mins idle time
- Do not leave CRT on standby, there is still a small trickle charge flowing, as on your TV, to 100% stop electrical consumption,
it's best to unplug it or turn of at socket
- Minimize your brightness to a comfortable reading level, less brightness may also lessen eye strain.
Eco-friendly desktop colors for CRT monitors
CRT monitors use the least amount of energy when set to black backgrounds, black is seen in RGB as #000000, with zero values
for red, green and blue (#RRGGBB), whilst white, #FFFFFF, is the opposite of black, with maximum or full values of red, green and blue.
RGB values are made up of 6 digits, each ranging from 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, F. e.g.. #FF0000, is the maximum red whilst,
#999999 is light gray,
the smaller the RGB number values, the closer the color is to black. Black alone is maybe cool for some but boring for others,
what about trying out desktop colors with low RGB values? These colors have a maximum of 5 by itself or in any combination.
As they are a closer to black than they are to white, so they may help to save energy.

best used with backgrounds of low brightness. Energy savings are easy to measure on a laptop because they are they
same as what saves your battery life, so play around with
lowering your brightness settings and if your battery lasts longer, you're on the right track.
